Sky installation @ Old Town Hall, City Gallery Prague, Czech Republic, 2003
The Sky project together with the passive_6628 and Tears projects belongs to the "eyeworks", a series of installations continuously produced since 2002. Eyeworks are virtual-visual environments designed for passive observation and physical perception. They communicate with the visitor through visual and physical sensations under specific conditions without the use of sound and with no interaction.
The visitor enters an unknown setting with no light source and with
artificially lowered temperature and sound levels. Because of these conditions,
the viewers' inborn ability to orient in time and space (the ability to evaluate
the room's size and position, the time of the day, etc.) is diminished.
LEDs are installed on the ceiling of the exhibition hall. They emit a white
glow of variable intensity. They create the illusion of a night sky with imaginary
constellations that change by means of computer-generated cycles.
In the course of the exhibition viewers have the opportunity to experience an infinite
number of the installations variations which evokes unexpected physical and psychological experience.
Dimensions of the installation vary according to the exhibition space. It can be adapted for almost any space. The exhibition space needs to be rearranged to feature a darkened interior, and a regulated temperature.
